About Us

 Instructors: Dan & Sue Hines

I started in the construction as a teenager, helping my Dad build and remodel houses in Washington County. As an adult I was a building Inspector at Washington County for 14 years before leaving to serve as Building Safety Director for Deschutes County. Two heart attacks in my 40’s resulted in a medical retirement, but sitting around the house was not for me. In 1999, because of my professional expertise in construction, building codes and education I started my first contractor education company known as ‘A Contractors Lifeline’. That same year I was hired to write the original lesson plan for the (very first) ‘Oregon Contractors Reference Manual’ and later that year I also wrote chapter 7. Over the last 35 or so years I have taught classes at Portland Community College, Lane Community College, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, FEMA and the Virgin Islands Government. I have numerous National and Oregon Building Inspector certifications and degrees in Management, Vocational Education and Building Construction Technology. I am also a published author in building code interpretation and enforcement.

I spent 30 years with the United States Postal Service serving, among other duties, as Delivery Service Analyst for the Portland District, managing rural mail delivery and teaching budget, work hour reporting methods and standard operating procedures to Postmasters and other management personnel before retiring as a mid level Postmaster in 2005. I have been instrumental in writing questions, editing content and keeping Dan focused on the task at hand. My organizational skills have kept Dan sane and my gentle manner of explanation has been helpful to both potential clients and students using our program to pass the State exam.

As a team, we offer you extensive knowledge, expertise and guidance to help you pass the Oregon State exam on the first try. Our Interactive program teaches you how to locate the information in the NASCLA Contractors Guide without having to read the entire book.

We are available 7 days a week (8am to 8pm) to assist you, by phone or e-mail.
